Punctal Plugs for Dry Eye Relief

Punctal plugs are a simple, in-office solution to help your eyes retain moisture and relieve dry eye symptoms. This quick treatment typically takes 5 minutes or less and can provide lasting comfort for patients with mild to moderate dry eye.

Dry eye often occurs when tears evaporate too quickly or drain away before they can fully protect the eye. Punctal plugs work by gently blocking the tear drainage ducts (puncta) located along the inner corners of the upper and lower eyelids. By slowing tear drainage, more of your natural tears stay on the surface of the eye longer—improving lubrication, reducing irritation, and helping maintain clearer vision.

The procedure is quick, gentle, and performed right in our office. Most patients experience little to no discomfort and can return to normal activities immediately. Depending on your needs, we may use temporarily dissolvable plugs or long-lasting non-absorbable plugs, and we’ll help you choose the best option during your consultation.
