Lacrimal System Irrigation for Eye Comfort

Our lacrimal system irrigation is a gentle, in-office procedure designed to help relieve symptoms of burning, watery, and red eyes that are often caused by congestion or buildup within the tear drainage system.

Tears normally flow across the eye’s surface and drain through tiny openings called puncta into the nasolacrimal drainage system. When this system becomes partially blocked or congested due to debris, mucus, or inflammation, tears may not drain properly—leading to irritation, excessive tearing, redness, and discomfort.

How Irrigation Works:

During the procedure, a sterile saline solution is flushed through the tear drainage passages to clear blockages and restore normal tear flow. The process is quick, safe, and typically well tolerated, providing immediate relief and helping improve overall tear drainage and eye comfort.

This treatment is especially helpful for patients experiencing:

  • Excessive tearing

  • Eye irritation or burning

  • Chronic redness

  • Recurrent debris around the eyelids

  • Symptoms related to punctal or canalicular buildup

Lacrimal irrigation is often performed as part of a comprehensive dry eye or ocular surface evaluation and can be combined with other therapies to optimize results.
